Bucky Heard, a native of Alabama, received his BFA in Theatre
Performance from Auburn University. While performing for regional theatres around the country, he was able to perfect his
craft and perform alongside some of Broadway's biggest names (Jodi Benson, Ray Benson, and Rebecca Luker to name a few).
This gave him the opportunity to portray a wide range of theatrical and musical roles from Shakespeare to Tennessee Williams
and from Rogers and Hammerstein to popular rock and roll musicals like "Grease" and "Hair." Over
the years, some of his favorite roles have included Audrey II (the voice of the plant) in "Little Shop of Horrors,"
Claude Bukowski in "Hair," and Lancelot Gobbo in "The Merchant of Venice." He was also honored to be cast
as the Tin Man ("The Wiz") by the Tony award winning choreographer, George Faison.
In the early 1990's, Bucky was a featured performer in revue and cabaret shows for Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines (RCCL). He was the opening act for numerous comedians including Richard Jenni and George Kirby. During the four years he was with RCCL, he entertained audiences all over the United States and Europe. In 1992, Bucky met his future wife, A.J., a choreographer/director and singer/dancer. Bucky and A. J. were married on March 20, 1995. They had visited "the live music capital of the world," Branson, Missouri, the previous year and decided they would make Branson their home. They have resided and performed in Branson since their marriage. Bucky has been blessed to share the stage with Tony Orlando, Yakov Smirnoff, Glen Campbell, Mickey Gilley, Johnny Lee, Jim Stafford, The Platters, Andy Williams, and Bill Medley to name a few. He also served as lead vocalist for Branson's 2000 Show of the Year, "50's At the Hop." Other credits include the award winning musical, "The Promise," the Showboat Branson Belle's "Party Gras," and the original civil war musical, "Gettysburg."
Bucky played the role of John Belushi/Jake Blues of the The Blues Brothers at the Legends in Concert Theatre in Branson along with his partner, Justin Clark, who plays Elwood Blues. He is slated to play this role again in 2009. He has also performed as John Cougar Mellencamp at the Legends. Bucky has also done voice over work for various theatres and production companies and is heard across the country singing numerous radio jingles. He can be heard in Branson's national television and radio promotional ads in which he sings the Doobie Brother's classic hit, "Listen to the Music." See the "Award" section of this website for details. That same year, Bucky and his business partner, Justin Clark (aka: Elwood Blues) released a feature film titled "The Forecast." Bucky served as writer/director/producer and played the lead role while Justin served as cinematographer/ producer/editor/assistant director. J.'s lives arrived, a beautiful baby girl. She was named Cydney Reese Heard. They are also very proud of their furry silver kids, the weims, Zoom, Zip, and Sterling. In 2007, inspired by his daughter, Bucky conceived the idea for a children’s tale of a baby falling from a tree just like in the old lullaby. Suddenly, as though divinely inspired, he went into a fit of creativity and began writing lyrics for children‘s songs. These hip, educational, musical creations were produced with the sole intention of planting the seed of knowledge into the absorbent minds of young children, and then encouraging them to bring those seed to fruition by embracing their own creativity, seeking knowledge, and feeding their desire to learn. From there the songs grew into a concept for a children’s show themed around the songs and performed live. A.J. loved the idea and wanted to be part of this undertaking. Bucky presented his ideas to his friend, Chris Skillern and his wife, Angie, and they began collaborating on a marvelous and uplifting musical children's show. The first step was to record the tunes in the form of a CD. The CD, titled “Who You Are Is Where It’s At,” was released on September 1, 2008. It features 15 original songs like, “H20h! is the Way to Go,” Find a Grown Up You Know Before You Say Hello,” “Don’t Stand By, Stand Up,” Pollution Solutions,” to name a few. Check the "merchandise" section of this website for a list of all the songs and to purchase your copy. "Rock U Mentally" is the group that performs these songs. The group consists of Chris and Angie Skillern, Kenny Brown, and Bucky and his lovely wife, A.J. who choreographs the shows.
